The state Department of Community and Economic Development has released a list of Blair County entities selected to receive COVID-19 Hospitality Industry Recovery Program grants.
The county, which was allocated $1.35 million to help hospitality-related businesses affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, was required to assign grant administration work to a certified economic development organization.
Commissioners depended on the Altoona-Blair County Development Corp. to solicit and review grants, then make decisions on allocations.
In May, the ABCD Corp. announced that it had processed 67 applications and deemed 58 as eligible for CHIRP grants. Funds were to be used to help the businesses pay for or garner reimbursement for eligible operating expenses that included payroll, rent, mortgage payments, utilities and other expenditures.
ABCD Corp. declined in May to release the names of the grant recipients and indicated that they would be made available later after they were submitted to DCED for review.
The state DCED provided the Altoona Mirror with the list of Blair County’s grant recipients, ranging from $5,000 to $45,000 per entity.
